About Us

Welcome to the web site for the Joseph House and the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary.

Both organizations were started in Baltimore by Sr. Mary Elizabeth Gintling (1914-2004) and were relocated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1977.

The Joseph House has been helping the poor since 1965. It is a volunteer-based organization that depends on private donations.

On our web site, you can learn about our various ministries, which include cash and food assistance for those with emergency needs (Joseph House Crisis Center), job-readiness training for homeless men (Joseph House Workshop), and a religious bookstore (Joseph House by the Sea). There is information on how to join us in helping the less fortunate by volunteering or making a donation.

Our web site also has information on the Little Sisters (founded in 1974), Sr. Mary Elizabeth Gintling, and our spirituality, which is based on the life of Charles de Foucauld.

Thank you for visiting our web site. Please feel free to contact us and to send us your special prayer intentions.

May God bless you!
