The Garden of Hope

A resident of the Joseph House Workshop is shown tending to the garden that was planted last spring. They call it the "Garden of Hope." A variety of fruits and vegetables were planted: corn, tomatoes, squash, melons, peppers, beans, cucumbers, peas, and carrots. And some marigolds as well.

The men of the Workshop collaborated on this project and have been harvesting throughout the summer. We appreciate very much how their labor has brought forth the beauty of creation.

Surprise Party

Mother Superior Sr. Connie Ladd turned 70 on July 16. We celebrated her birthday with a surprise party on July18. When she arrived at the church hall of St. Francis de Sales in Salisbury, her friends and family were waiting to help her rejoice in the wonderful gift of life.

May our good and gracious God continue to shower His blessings upon Sr. Connie!

Sr. Connie with our secretary, Beth, and bookkeeper, Ella, who organized the party.

A big surprise for Sr. Connie was the arrival of her son and his family, who live in Texas.

Online Visit to the Trappist Monastery in Berryville, VA

On March 28, the Washington Post published an article and video about Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville, Virginia. The Little Sisters have a special connection to this Trappist monastery in the Blue Ridge Mountains: it is the place where our Founder received her habit and veil in a ceremony on July 7, 1974.

The text of the article can be found at this link: The Silent Treatment: A quiet vacation at Virginia's Holy Cross Abbey in the Shenandoah Valley.

Digging Out: Round 2

With another storm blanketing the Eastern Shore with over 12 inches of snow, all we can do at the moment is enjoy the stillness and beauty of winter.

Nevertheless, the cold and snow are a burden for many. We must always be alert to the needs of others and be ready to offer assistance.

Digging Out

The storm of January 30 brought more snow than expected. Our volunteers helped to clear the steps of our convent in Salisbury. Although shoveling is hard work, the snow is beautiful. We pray it doesn't cause too much of a hardship for people.

"Ice and snow, bless the Lord; praise and exalt Him above all forever." (Daniel 3:70)
