The Joseph House is a non-profit charitable organization that helps the poor and homeless of southern Delaware and the Lower Shore counties of Maryland and Virginia.

Our services include financial assistance for housing, utilities, and other necessities, a food pantry, soup kitchen, day shelter for men and women experiencing homelessness, and a long-term residential program for homeless men.

The Joseph House is administered by the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary, a community of Catholic women religious based in Salisbury, Maryland, USA.

Our Founder

Sr. Mary Elizabeth Gintling is the founder of both the Joseph House and the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary. She was born in Philadelphia in 1914 and died in Salisbury in 2004.

Our Patron Saints

The Joseph House is named in honor of St. Joseph, the carpenter of Nazareth and head of the Holy Family. Our other patron saint is Charles de Foucauld, canonized in 2022.
